Hair straightening with person with no experience?

Hi. I have a Wave Rage 5-in-1 Matrix Styler with can create straight, crimped, or curled hairstyles.

Because my hair is slightly curly, I wanted to straighten it. It's strait at the top but curls at the ends for some reason.

SO i bought this thinking that i could straighten it like a lot of other people have done. Sort of like this picture: http://www.a-l-i-n-e.com/img/aline%20str...

Now.. I'm quite.. tomboyish and i know nothing about hair (Even though mine is really long -30 inches-) other than how to wash it. I also got it highlighted...

But so i tried to straighten it and it worked a little bit... but nowhere near as strait as other people have it. I don't know if its the straitener.. my hair type or length.. or if i'm doing something completely wrong or if you're supposed to use some... cream or whatever.. I'm on a tight budget so if there's a cheap effective alternative to anything.... i'd be happy to hear it..

Thanks soooo much in advance ^_^

I straighten my hair every two days. After washing it with a straightening shampoo and conditioner. I part my hair into four sections and blow dry it straight first. use a ceramic straightener and straighten in sections from top to bottom in one smooth motion. I sucked at it at first too, but now I love it!

I have had one of those 4 in 1 straighteners and they never worked. Go to Wal-Mart (if you have one) and they have a white hair straightener by Revlon for 17 or 18 dollars. It has gold plates on it. I have one and I love it. Good luck

I don't even have to see the picture, hon. Your hair is straight at the top from the weight of your hair, it curls at the ends because the weight is less there. You may want to consider getting a curly style, or like I do, just dealing with the waves! :D

You should let the hair iron get hot before you use it. And when you use it go slow through your hair, and do small sections at a time. You have to be patient because it takes some time.

make sure your hair has no tangles in it first.

also clip up sections of your hair that you arent straightening and only straighten small sections at a time.

try spraying a little hairspray into each section before straightening it for better hold

You need one that is a ceramic iron...it wont dry the ends of your hair out like the cold ones...alot of the gold ones say that they're ceramic but they're not..go for the more expensive ones they're better in the long run and last alot longer..

hey, i used to have that problem, two words, CERAMIC STRAIGHTENER! it works sooo well. make sure it is ceramic because it does not leave black burned spots!

You are using the wrong type of straightener. The one you are using is not holding your hair enough or is not getting hot enough. Get a conair with a small width about 1 inch wide on the heated straightener part

Once a week, treat your head to a deep-conditioning treatment, like Alberto VO5 Total Hair Recovery ($5).

Set the dryer on the lowest heat setting

Give your hair spray and bristle brush a day of rest.

Spend 30 minutes mayo and a hot towel wrapped around your head. Sometimes, hair needs a little love.

That is to take care of your hair.

Straightening it when a straightner will burn it.

Try blow drying it striaght. Make sure you didn't miss any wet parts. Leaving your hair wet will cause frizz.

I know a striaghtner that won't burn your hair, but since your on low budget, I wouldn't recommend it.

It's about $200.

For a good straighting job divide your hair into 3 layers, top, middle and undermost. Now divide each layer into 5 or more parts. Finally, starting with the bottom layer strighten each part. The smaller sections help the straightener do its job better. I usually tie off each section until I'm done with it, so you don't redo any parts.
